Love As One

I painted this plate last night….Nov. 19th. It’s only the 3rd or 4th pottery plate I’ve ever painted. I’m scared to paint much pottery…..one never knows how they will turn out once removed from the kiln. This plate shows the love a husband has for his bride…..doves on his shoulder’s showing his faith and she holding flowers, representing the patience of growth. A smaller plate that should be larger than life…..only 6 inches across….

Angel with a Halo

I completed this painting a while back and recently found it again in a pile of unfinished and unsold works. I’ve always like this particular painting as it was done in a series of other angel artworks.

Wood Carvings for the First Time Ever

I was commissioned to design and create 5 signs for a horse barn, depicting each horse’s name. I was given total creative freedom where I could choose to paint, carve or even use pottery. I chose to carve the names by hand using both a pocket knife and a Dremel tool and several pieces and White Oak I was about to use as firewood. I used a blowtorch also while carving to darken the letters and make them stand out against the light wood grain.

The Hands of a Jazz Piano

Image

I’ve had a fascination with painting and drawing hands for years, especially hands at work. I combined this with my love of good jazz music and this painting is the result. Measure 2 ft wide X 1 ft tall….estimated.

Mulan Mural for Faucett-Vestavia Elementary School

Image

I painted this mural for a local elementary school in their lunchroom. It took about 40 hours to complete and was done by combining various images from the Disney Mulan movie. I tried to include as many of the characters from the movie as possible. Measures 8 ft wide X 5 ft tall.

Rustic Pitchers

From bowls to pitchers.

I like the rustic look and feel of these.

I made these from the same recycled clay mixture as the bowls: Amaco White Art Clay #25 & remnants from friends. It has a high grog & a pink hue when it dries before being bisque fired.

And used the last bit of my happy accident desert sky glaze. The turquoise is more subdued in these. Almost a watery feel as it settled into the crevices and spirals.

Hand Coiled Bowl Set

My wife challenged me to make a bowl set. Something useful but fun, she said. These are the results!

Made from a recycled clay mixture: Amaco White Art Clay #25 & remnants from friends. It has a high grog & a pink hue when it dries before being bisque fired.

The glaze is a happy accident with brilliant turquoise blue shining through a warm terra cota glaze. It reminds me of a desert, where the sky meets the earth.
